Intersocial Training Course on Land Access and Resettlement

Intersocial is offering a 2-day training course on Land Access and Resettlement in Cape Town on 6-7 February 2015, prior to the Investing in African Mining Indaba.

The course will provide two days of specialized training by Intersocial’s three directors: Mike Steyn, Eddie Smyth and Gerry Reddy, and will coincide with the publication of their book Land Access and Resettlement: A Guide to Best Practice - publishing January 2015 by Greenleaf Publishing (available to pre-order at www.greenleaf-publishing.com/productdetail.kmod?productid=4051). The Book is a practical up-to-date guide to planning and implementing successful projects based on real lessons learned.

The training course will include key sessions on the Business Case for Doing Land Access and Resettlement Properly, Assessment, Stakeholder Engagement, Negotiations, Physical Resettlement Planning and Implementation, and Livelihood Restoration.

The course aims to bring together practitioners from the private sector, government, civil society and researchers to share experiences. Sessions will use an interactive approach, with discussion of practical case examples and a focus on lessons learned with regard to common pitfalls, what has worked and not worked (practical and innovative methodologies and tools from across the world), dos and don’ts, critical principles and things to bear in mind.

Early registration (through 20 December 2014): US$ 500

Late registration (through 20 January 2015): US$ 575

Registration includes participation in the training course, a copy of the book « Land Access and Resettlement: A Guide to Best Practice » and 2 lunches. Participants are required to organise their own travel and accommodation. Early registration is advised.
